A Day at Summer Horizons Camp

Each camp day is full of surprises big and small, but all groups follow a rhythm and routine. While our themes vary, and specialty activities will be different each week, campers who return for many weeks find comfort in the familiar schedule. Campers also look forward to awesome special events and fun traditions such as picnic lunchDress Up Days, and Camp Spirit Days.

MORNING MEETINGS

Each morning, all age groups participate in a Morning Meeting. This is time to get to know each other, share, play games, and get excited about the day.

AM ADVENTURES OR SWIMMING

Some campers are enrolled in the optional swim instruction off campus. During a group’s allotted swim time, campers who are not enrolled in swim will stay on campus and go to AM Adventures. There they will partake in a variety of activities, including themed programming, optional water play, and outdoor play.

THEMED PROGRAMMING

All groups will participate in daily age-appropriate activities based around the theme of the week. We love using our imaginations, moving our bodies, exploring science and art, working together, building, playing, and sometimes just rocking out! Camp is a fun place to learn and grow, and nowhere is that more evident than in the exciting projects, games, and adventures woven into every age group’s schedule.

WATER PLAY

Water play is a great time to cool off from the summer heat! Campers may enjoy playing in the sprinkler, stomping in a splash pad, squishing sponges, spraying squirters, water balloon games, and more sensory fun.

Chickadees, Bluebirds, & Larks will do water play on Mondays regardless of swim enrollment.

All campers not enrolled in swim will do water play Tuesdays through Thursdays.

OUTDOOR PLAY

We offer ample outdoor play time for all groups. For this summer, each classroom is assigned set times for playground areas where they may share outdoor spaces with other classrooms in the same age group. On rainy days, we may make use of the Gym for movement space. If there is no thunder or lightning, we may also use the large tent on the field (or simply take time to play in the rain!). Groups are outside between 2 to 4 hours each day.

SNACK & LUNCH

We provide a small, peanut-free, tree nut-free, egg-free snack to all campers mid-morning. We encourage our campers to drink water throughout the day. On some occasions, we may offer ice pops in the afternoon with parent permission.

Please pack a lunch for your camper daily. Most groups will eat outside for snacks and lunch. Chickadees, Bluebirds, and Larks eat lunch inside most days. On poor weather days, all campers will eat indoors.

REST TIME

Chickadees, Bluebirds, and Larks enrolled in the full day (3 pm dismissal) will have a rest period at approximately 1 pm. This is a quiet time to cool down minds and bodies. Sleeping is permitted, but not mandatory. Children may bring a blanket and soft cuddle toy.
