We take the heat seriously, and staff are trained to recognize and help prevent heat-related illnesses. Time for water breaks and sunscreen application are included on the schedule throughout the day. Please pack adequate sun protection (sunscreen, sunglasses, hat) and a reusable water bottle, and remind your child of the importance of using these items. We may alter or limit outdoor activities if we feel that it is necessary for the health and well-being of our campers. In the case that a citywide “Heat Emergency” is declared, or on a day where the air quality is code red or higher, we direct activities indoors.
We do not cancel camp for rain or common summer storms. Please have your child bring or wear a rain jacket or poncho on days that call for rain. We also encourage packing rain boots on these days. On days when rain is warm and light, we may still hold outside activities.
During thunderstorms, no staff or campers are permitted outdoors. Should we hear thunder or see lightning during a carpool, we will pause the carpool and wait until 5 minutes have passed without further lightning or thunder. Then we will continue. No staff may be outside during active thunder or lightning, but parents may choose to park their vehicles and walk to the entrance to retrieve their camper. Please have your carpool sign or ID on hand if this is the case. Staff are required to stay with their campers during this time until all campers have been safely dismissed.
