Summer Horizons Day Camp

Hello Happy Campers!

We are pleased to share with you our schedule for Summer 2022!   We can't wait to welcome back our campers age 3 (Chickadees), 4 (Bluebirds), rising Kindergarten (Larks), rising 1st - 2nd Grade (Robins), rising 3rd and 4th Grade (Hawks), and rising 5th and 6th Grade (Eagles) for 8 weeks of summer fun.

It’s been a long year, but at Summer Horizons Camp at NPS, there’s Fun on the Horizon!

Our Wonderful World

This summer, join us as we explore the natural beauty of our Earth! From animals to trees to you and me, we are surrounded by abundant life on this planet we all call home. Let’s learn about and appreciate the history and diversity of living creatures and ecosystems.

Session 1: Ancient Creatures (1 week)

Tuesday, June 21 – Friday, June 24
(Closed on Monday, 6/20 for Juneteenth)

We’ll connect with our planet’s history during this week of dino-mite fun! Let’s tumble backward through time to learn about different geologic periods and prehistoric animals. Our junior archeologists will discover how our planet was different from today through engaging crafts, stories, and games. We’ll look at vertebrates like dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and mammals, and even learn a bit about early plant life. How did these organisms live, what did they eat, and how do we know?

Session 2: Our Community (2 weeks)

Monday, June 27 – Friday, July 1 & Tuesday, July 5 – Friday, July 8
(Closed on Monday, 7/4 for Independence Day)

What makes each of us special? Let’s ponder how we can we use our skills and talents to work together to solve problems! Campers will take on a helper mindset this session and learn about small actions and big jobs that help keep our homes, cities, and planet connected, safe, and functioning. We’ll learn about innovators & careers in different industries, we’ll practice service, and we’ll think about ways we can make a positive impact in our community. Together, we can make the world a better place through how we treat each other and what we do each day.

Session 3: Let it Grow! (2 weeks)

Monday, July 11 – Friday, July 15 & Monday, July 18 – Friday, July 22

How do living things grow—and what makes something “alive”? This session we will get the dirt on plants, the buzz on insects, and the word on water in our efforts to learn more about what we need to survive. From pollen to predators, campers will get a peek at the heartbeat of our planet’s food systems and learn about how our food fuels our bodies. We’ll try our hand at gardening and learn a bit about photosynthesis and farming.

Session 4: Amazing Animals (2 weeks)

Monday, July 25 – July 29 & Monday, August 1 - Friday, August 5

Our world is full of so many different ecosystems that support life on this planet. Let’s examine a few habitats and animals on every continent! We will focus on how different creatures survive, learning what they eat, how they protect themselves, where and when they sleep, and other fascinating facts. Then, let’s take a look at how each animal functions as a part of its greater ecosystem. Why does biodiversity matter? What is a protected area? Campers will also learn about invasive and endangered species, and explore threats to the places these animals live.
