This summer, NPS did something it’s never done before. The school took its annual Diversity Institute virtual for the first time. Due to the pandemic and a focus on the core value of Safety, we thought it best to bring the 4th Annual Diversity Institute to educators and administrators via Zoom. With over 50 registrants, diversity consultant Jen Cort brought her knowledge and expertise on Social Justice to our screens for three consecutive days—July 14th-July 16th. Attendees joined each morning to hear presentations from Jen on social justice and how to authentically and successfully embed this work into their respective classrooms and schools. In the afternoon, participants broke out into various break out rooms to discuss questions related to the morning’s presentation and/or to brainstorm ways to incorporate different techniques into their respective schools. While there were attendees who worked in elementary, middle, and/or high schools, they each had multiple opportunities to have conversations with peers across grade levels, subject areas, and social identifiers. Nearly 20 participants were from National Presbyterian School with others attending from Beauvoir, NCRC, WES, Sandy Spring Friends School, Landon, Holy Trinity, and Presbyterian Day School in Tennessee among others. Jen left participants with a wealth of knowledge, resources, and wonderful workshop experience.
