2nd Grade Letters to Soldiers

Dear NPS students, faculty, and families,

Second grade has been hard at work this year communicating with others through letter writing. We have written to several different people within our school community and communities outside of NPS. Here are some of the letter writing opportunities we have had:

  • Writing letters to our parents for Back to School Night telling them all about 2nd grade
  • Writing letters to the soldiers, to be sent with the candy we donated, thanking them for their service
  • Writing holiday cards to our buddies wishing them happy holidays
  • Writing letters responding to students’ questions about DC from St. George’s school in New Orleans
  • Writing to Mr. Lester thanking him for the free dress day after Christmas break and persuading him to make it a tradition
  • Writing letters to accompany the hygiene kits we made with our buddies to send out into the community
  • Writing letters to soldiers serving  on the USS John C. Stennis, an aircraft carrier deployed in the Indian Ocean thanking them for their service

Through our letter writing we have developed our communication skills by expressing our ideas to others, practiced our handwriting skills, and learned how we are a part of a bigger community!

Sincerely,

2nd grade
