2022 Patricia Cunningham Citizen-Scholar Award

From Head of School Malcolm Lester's remarks at the 2022 NPS Graduation Ceremony

The Patricia Cunningham Citizen-Scholar Award is presented annually to an NPS 5th grader. The Award was established by Dr. Woody Cunningham in honor of his wife, the late Patricia Cunningham, the founding Head of School of NPS, and was created one year after Mrs. Cunningham’s passing in 2007. Both Mrs. Cunningham and Dr. Cunningham were instrumental in founding NPS 53 years ago, and we are so grateful to them for doing so.

The Cunningham Award is chosen by a vote of the faculty and staff and goes to a rising 6th grader who has shown leadership and leadership potential, exemplified the NPS Core Values, been loyal to NPS and his or her class, and served others through compassion and humility.  The award provides a scholarship to attend the Junior National Youth Leaders Conference, with the goal that the awardee takes what is learned at the summer program and uses it during their 6th grade year to serve NPS.

We are honored that Dr. Cunningham and his wife Jessie Harris are here today and I will now ask them to please join me for this presentation, along with last year’s recipient, Leo Mosoti.

I am pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2022 Patricia Cunningham Citizen Scholar Award is Charlie Pippert. Congratulations, Charlie!
