Two Girls Reading

In Writer’s Workshop this year 1st Graders have been working on small moment stories. Students have been creating stories about small moments that have happened in their lives. Each student then chose one of their small moment stories to publish into their own book. Students created a cover page, as well as an author’s bio to go along with their stories.

On Wednesday of this week, the First Grade classes held a Small Moment Publishing Party. All the First Grade classes came together to share their stories! Students were very excited to share the books they worked so hard on and they took pride in their writing.

In Kindergarten through Sixth Grade, teachers introduce students to the Writing Workshop model from Columbia University’s Teachers College. Writing Workshop focuses on select units of study including narrative, opinion/argument, and information writing with the goal of increasing the complexity and sophistication of student work.

Below are some images from our Small Moments Publishing Party.
