The Math League is an organization dedicated to bringing challenging mathematics materials to students. Each year they sponsor a contest designed to stimulate interest and confidence in mathematics for students from 4th grade through high school. Over 1 million students participate in Math League contests across the country each year. We participate in the Maryland Contest. The contest problems are designed to cover a range of mathematical knowledge for each grade level.
This year students in grades 4-6 participated in the contest. In Grades 4 & 5 students have 30 minutes to complete 30 multiple choice questions.
In Grade 6, students have 30 minutes to complete 35 problems. Our top five scores are then combined for an NPS team score which is sent in to the math competition. Our team score this year was 109 and among schools that participated throughout Maryland and DC, NPS placed 11th.
Congratulations to all our 1st, 2nd, 3rd place school-level winners of the Maryland Math League Contest!
The NPS Math Specialist, Ms. Williams, encourages all of you to find ways to practice math over the summer, whether it is completing the summer math book, having a lemonade stand on a hot summer day, cooking with your parents, or checking the newspaper each day for data, statistics, and graphs. Math is all around you so have fun with it this summer!
