CITs at NPS Summer experience working with younger children in a camp setting while earning their CIT certificates. The Counselor in Training (CIT) program is designed to help middle and upper school campers hone their leadership skills. Our aim is to prepare CITs to enter higher education and the workforce with an introduction to resume- and character-building experiences.
There is no maximum or minimum number of weeks required.

This program involves a variety of in-camp projects and the opportunity to plan and lead activities for our younger campers. CITs will focus on their positions as role models, develop team building skills through daily group challenges, and participate in problem-solving activities intended to boost their strengths and capabilities as future young professionals and socially responsible human beings.
CITs develop their soft skills and practice caring and effective communication through their work in service to younger campers and in reflective discussions. CITs also have the opportunity to strengthen their connection to the DC community by participating in community service projects. Past CIT service projects have included visits to sites such as the Unique Residential Care Center, putting together several care kits for So Others May Eat, and serving food alongside other volunteers at Martha's Table.
Upon request, CITs may also receive documentation of community service hours. Please submit all such requests in writing upon the first day of attendance.
To register for this program, please visit the CampBrain registration website: here. All CIT applicants must read the CIT Required Reading prior to registration. Online registration forms must be completed for each camper. A health form must be completed online by June 1. Please see our Policies, Forms, and Fees pages for additional notes regarding registration procedures.
