Health & Safety
With safety being a Core Value, there is no greater focus for our school than the safety, security and well-being of the children entrusted in our care. That focus extends to our faculty, staff, visitors and greater community.
NPS takes a comprehensive, team-based approach to create and foster a safe school environment. Director of Health & Safety Michael Browne oversees the team, managing staffing, policies and protocols. A member of the Maryland Center for School Safety, ZeroNow-National Council of School Safety Directors, Joffe Academy, and the National Safety Council, Ms. Browne collaborates with senior administrators and faculty to ensure that the school implements the best and most current practices across all areas related to health and safety. This includes emergency preparedness and response, facilities management, professional development in CPR and First Aid, oversight of the Health Office, health and safety policies and procedures, and emergency response management.

Health & Wellness
NPS maintains two registered pediatric nurses who ensure that health and wellness protocols are applied to every member of the school community. They support children and families with their health and allergy regimens, and deliver on-going education as a students' health needs evolve and revise.

Emergency Preparedness and Response
All members of NPS Faculty and Staff are trained in First Aid as well as CPR, and they engage in an annual campus-wide training — conducted by our nursing staff — focused on supporting students with allergies and anaphylaxis. EpiPens are strategically positioned throughout the school to ensure quick access in emergencies, and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are regularly maintained and readily available in key locations.
Additionally, NPS partners with The Educator's School Safety Network for emergency preparedness training and conducts reviews of both the NPS Parent Handbook and Faculty & Staff Handbooks to keep safety protocols current and effective.
Operational Safety and Security on Campus
NPS facilities are maintained and enhanced with a focus on safety and security. Access to campus is controlled through secure entry systems and outdoor areas are enclosed and protected. Surveillance measures are in place throughout campus. The perimeter of campus is patrolled by two security guards as well as an additional Safety Officer, who operates both within the building and on the campus perimeter.

Staying Safe in a Digital World
At NPS, technology and phone guidelines help protect students and staff while encouraging responsible use. Students learn how to be safe and respectful online and practice ways to protect personal information. Internet access is monitored to support a secure learning environment, and technology is introduced thoughtfully as a tool for learning. These practices reflect our commitment to student health, safety, and well-being.
