Core Cardinals & Student Council

Student Council is an opportunity for NPS’s Fifth and Sixth Grade students to develop leadership skills within a structured setting. With an adult advisor, Student Council members meet weekly before school to brainstorm ideas, set goals, and implement ideas to improve our school community. Each year, there are student generated committees that focus on celebrations, service, assemblies, and overall school improvement. Recent projects have included school wide composting, improved snack offerings, book drives, spirit days, and school wide morning announcements.

Our 6th Grade Core Cardinals are the leaders of Student Council.

This smaller group of students meet an additional morning each week to plan meetings for the broader group. They receive additional training in group leadership, goal setting, and idea implementation. They also plan assembly presentations on the Core Values, lead weekly Student Council committee meetings, and serve as ambassadors during admissions visits. As part of the Core Cardinal experience, these students also reflect on their own leadership styles and share and receive feedback on how they can improve their work as student leaders.
