Renowned for academic sophistication, confidence, and compassion, our graduates are highly sought after by a wide array of schools in seventh grade.

NPS graduates’ success reflects both the exceptional education students receive at NPS as well as the strong relationships cultivated between NPS and other area schools. Throughout the year, the Director of Outplacement and Head of School visit other schools and host their representatives on our campus.

Outplacement Process & Timeline

Starting in the spring of Fifth Grade, our Outplacement Team, comprised of the Head of School, the Director of Outplacement, and the Sixth Grade Teachers, engages students and parents in a hugely personal and hands-on placement process helping to identify schools that are a good fit, guiding them throughout the application process, and advocating for children at the schools to which they apply.

Spring | Fifth Grade

Fall | Sixth Grade

Students participate in mock interviews with NPS teachers and administrators.
NPS hosts an Outplacement Coffee & Conversation to help families prepare for visits, interviews and registration for any needed exams.
Frequent check-ins with families to develop a short list of schools.
On-Campus ISEE & SSAT Test Preparation and Administration as needed.
The Director of Outplacement oversees the process for Sixth Grade Teachers’ written recommendations in English and Math and suggests additional recommendations as needed.
The Director of Outplacement and Head of School co-write an additional letter of recommendation for each student.
NPS accommodates student visits to area schools.

Winter | Sixth Grade

The Director of Outplacement oversees the submission of transcripts and teacher recommendations.
The Director of Outplacement and Head of School visit schools to which students have applied and advocate for NPS applicants.
NPS hosts a Coffee and Conversation in February to review the notification process, including how to prepare students for decisions and final visits.
The Director of Outplacement, Sixth Grade Teachers and Counselors provide support and counsel to students and parents around decisions, setting a positive tone that focuses on respecting one another’s options and chosen path.
From the time that schools issue decisions to the time that families commit to a school, the Director of Outplacement and Head of School serve as a touchpoint to parents.

NPS hosts an Outplacement Coffee & Conversation to provide an overview of the process, application requirements, tuition and affordability, and tips to get started with their school search.

The Director of Outplacement and Head of School meet with the parents of each Fifth Grade student to discuss a broad list of possible schools.

Fall | Sixth Grade
