Kindergarten Explores Themes of Identity and Community

At NPS we know that students who feel secure and connected in their classroom communities are successful both academically and socially.

A tool Kindergarten uses to help foster this sense of connection and community is Karen Katz's picture book, The Colors of Us. The wonderful illustrations and heartfelt theme allowed us to recognize, discuss, and celebrate the diversity among us. Our hands-on self-portrait painting showed the students how much mixing was involved in finding their own unique colors.
