Kindergarten and Kandinsky Combine Creatively

Kindergarten students have been studying two Elements of Design this fall: line and color.

For this project, they were asked to identify, name and draw a variety of lines as well as learn about color theory (primary and opposite colors), and begin practicing water color techniques.

As a class, the students read aloud the book, "Lines that Wiggle and Lines that Squiggle" and "The Noisy Paint Box," a story about the Russian artist Vasilly Kandinsky. Additionally, they viewed and discussed several of Kandinsky's paintings.

To create their final compositions, each student drew a variety of lines while listening to classical music by Mozart. They matched their lines to the tempo, sound, and beat of each musical piece. The art works were enhanced with color using watercolor paint.
