The students in 4th grade have been studying jazz and the roots of jazz all year in music class. In March, they presented an original musical to share the fruits of their knowledge. The premise of the show is that the 4th grade has, through their intense study, contracted a disease known as "jazzicitis." Students performed music by Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, and many more, including several solo singers and musicians and a rousing arrangement of Old MacDonald Had a Farm by Roger Emerson. The 4th graders were also joined on stage by local jazz trumpeter DeAndre Shaifer, who had visited with the music classes earlier this year. Jones Hall was jumpin' and the students enjoyed spreading "jazzicitis" to the whole community!
